Paul Valar, chairman of the PSIA Technical Committee and head of the ski school at Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire, “…was instrumental in shaping the American System of ski teaching.” In a bridging step to wedel(n) there was the “parallel with check” turn. “The skier goes on a traverse, makes a short heel thrust, sets the skis in a check, sets the pole in the snow on the down-motion, …and then uses an up-motion to start the turn… down the hill.” 26
